Starting the Low FODMAP Diet
FODMAP is an acronym for a certain class of carbohydrates, called fermentable short-chain carbohydrates, which are more difficult for people to digest. (The full acronym stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols.) The low-FODMAP diet temporarily restricts these carbohydrates in order to relieve uncomfortable symptoms and give your digestive system a rest. Removing irritants gives your gut lining a chance to repair itself and can help restore a healthy balance of gut flora.
How to follow a FODMAP diet? Start with these 3 simple steps:

Elimination Phase
During this initial stage, all high FODMAP foods are removed from the diet for a period of time, typically 2-6 weeks. This helps identify foods that trigger symptoms.

Reintroduction Phase
In this phase, over a period of 3-7 days, high FODMAP foods are reintroduced one by one to pinpoint triggers and assess tolerance levels.

Personalization Phase
From the reintroduction findings, a tailored low FODMAP diet is created, excluding symptom-triggering FODMAPs for effective IBS management.
